Obama, the Jewish Vote and Campaign Misinformation by Others : Hillary Alienating Voters

By Andis Kaulins

ADVERTISEMENTS
In Obama Walks a Difficult Path as He Courts Jewish Voters, Neela Banerjee of the New York Times in that March 1, 2008 article goes through all of the misinformation that is being directed at Barack Obama by factions who do not want to see him elected as President.

One area of misinformation relates to Obama and the Jews. Obama's relationship to the Jewish vote is important because of a history of uneasiness between Jews and blacks in America.

What we find disturbing here is that some of this misleading information is being spread by Hillary Clinton as a kind of smear tactic that her campaign is directing toward Obama in her desperate wish to reclaim a Democratic Party nomination that she once probably thought to be hers for the taking but which has now disappeared out of sight.

Rather than winning voters to her side by concentrating on issues of relevance to the good of the nations, she is resorting to this deplorable last ditch tactic and is alienating people such as this writer who conclude, rightly or wrongly, that she is running for President for herself and not for the interests of the country. Someone interested in the best welfare of the country would campaign differently - and honorably.

My message to Hillary would be: Lady, win or lose, but be positive for America. Has she forgotten all the ideals that she once had because of personal ambition? It certainly looks like it. What a shame. Even if she does not win the nomination, she should remember that she still has a large following in America and that, win or lose, she still is an important female figure in American politics, so why throw that away just because you will not be President. We would suggest to her campaign that they reconsider their approach for as long as the campaign is continued. Don't go out badly.
