Class Action Lawsuit Filings Rise But Labor Law Class Action Cases Again Hold Top Spot In Weekly Class Action Filings In California State And Federal Courts

As a resource to California class action defense attorneys, we provide weekly, unofficial summaries of the legal categories for new class action lawsuits filed in California state and federal courts in the Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, San Diego, San Mateo, Oakland/Alameda and Orange County areas. We include only those categories that include 10% or more of the class action filings during the preceding week. This report covers February 22 ? 28, 2008, during which time 29 new class action lawsuits were filed. Employment law class actions generally top this list, often by a wide margin, and last week did not buck that trend. During the past week, 26 new labor law class action suits were filed (53% of the total number of new class action lawsuits). The only other categoriesto break the 10% threshold were antitrust class actions, which had seven (7) new class action filings (14%), and California unfair competition law (UCL) class action cases,which includes class actions alleging false advertising claims, with six (6) new filings (12%).
