: New York City Personal Injury LawyerTwo Students Struck by Drunk Driver while Walking to School in Brooklyn
By Paul Napoli
December 10, 2009
A drunk driver in an SUV struck and critically injured two students as they walked to school this morning in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, police said.
Brian Rosario, 17, and Elizabeth Lopez, 17, were crossing Ocean Parkway at the intersection of West Avenue on their way to Lincoln High School just before 9 a.m., when a green Ford Explorer traveling southbound on Ocean Parkway ran a red light and struck both teenagers.
Police arrested Oliver Black, 54, of Brooklyn, the driver of the Ford Explorer with DWI and operating an unlicensed vehicle, the SUV had no license plates.
Ambulances transported both teenagers to nearby Coney Island Hospital. Doctors later transferred Rosario to Lutheran Medical Center and Lopez to Kings County Hospital.
Lincoln High School sits at the corner of Ocean Parkway and West Avenue; there are no crossing guards to help students cross the intersection safely.
