Landing the Legal Job You Want - How hard can that really be?

By lawjobspipeline

ADVERTISEMENTS

We read an entry in the “Law & More” blog about recent goings-on from the Wall Street Journal and US News & World Report about the latter’s law school rankings and their rele/irrelevance to those seeking a decent legal job.

The point being made, picked up from a comment on the WSJ Law Blog was that the rankings and law schools are still important determinants as to what law job you ultimately get.  However, if you want to get more creative (and we’d have to say a little lucky) you can try getting (for instance) famous, like lawyers working on high profile criminal cases - or get published - or use the old, tried-and-true contacts and exploit the living hell out of them.

Well, some of these methods work - some don’t.  The key is to at least have some flexibility and think outside the square when it comes to trying to land the law job you want.  Law schools and grades are highly relevant - but so too is flexibility, social skills and little things like empathy.
