Blu Folding Prefab Home Office

By Chuck Newton

ADVERTISEMENTS

I get the comment all of the time from prospective home office people, or those that want to downshift to a small private office at least close to home, that they have no where to work that they can call and treat as their own.  I often ask if they have a back yard.  Some do not, but most do.  Then I suggest adding an office or adding space that would clear room for a more private office in their homes.  It is not as hard as one might think.  You do not need to remodel your home or add onto it.  Nothing to fancy, but something private.  That is all for which most of us ask.

In this regard, Blu Homes announced their new product dubbed Origin.  Origin is built using Blu's incredible folding technology, which allows the company to ship homes nationally, and then unfold them.  A time lapsed video is below that shows how this is packaged.

The company recently delivered four Origins to the new TBS show, Lopez Tonight.  One unit is George Lopez's dressing room, one is a waiting room, and the other two others are dressing rooms.

The Origin units can be used for most anything, and Blu promotes their use as a home office, yoga studio, art studio, in-law apartment, or a small home.  So, placing it next to your house or on a separate small lot away from your home is just fine.  A trip across the patio or throw down a few pavers, and you are in your new home office, free of the noise and excitement of you house.

Although the layout is made to order, Blue presents this version of a home or small office.  (CLICK HERE TO SEE THE FLOOR PLAN).

Blu's Origin trends green as well.  The units can include windows and natural light, renewable bamboo floors, organic resin privacy panels, recycled paper counter tops, Energy Star appliances, low-flow fixtures, no- or low-VOC paints and finishes, foam insulation, hybrid or electric car plug-ins, an energy monitoring system, rainwater collection and storage, optional composting space, and roof-ready solar thermal and PV.

Pricing varies, but Blu estimates a factory price range of about $64,000 - $114,000, but the price does not include shipping or site work.

Give it a look and imagine what you can do.
