: The GavelNewspaper: WI Law ?A Significant Stride?
By Peter Hardin

Wisconsin’s new law to provide public financing for state Supreme Court campaigns, signed by the governor this week, continues to get attention at home and out of state.
“Its enactment marks a significant stride in the right direction,” editorialized the Capital Times in Madison. “And it proves that real reform is possible.”
FactCheck.Org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, published a blog post entitled, “Public Financing Comes to Wisconsin Supreme Court.” It examined how the law works and the record of misleading attack ads “that dominated two of Wisconsin’s three most recent court races.”
In addition, FactCheck.Org quoted Bert Brandenburg, Justice at Stake executive director, as hailing the measure and saying it means that “Wisconsin’s judges can focus on applying the law and talking to voters, not on dialing for dollars.” You can read more about the Wisconsin law, and the debate over it, in Gavel Grab.
