Cautionary tale flows from Flight 5191 death

Betty Young was the oldest passenger on Comair Flight 5191 when it crashed in August 2006 at Blue Grass Airport.

Her death stunned the 74-year-old's family: her husband, W. Richard Young, and her four grown children, her stepchildren and her grandchildren.

Nearly eighteen months later, the shock of Young's death has turned to anger, finger-pointing and accusations of greed. Her heirs are now locked in a legal tug of war over her estate.

The battle -- between Betty Young's four children from her previous marriage and their stepfather -- is not likely to end soon. Richard Young sued his stepchildren in Fayette Circuit Court in September. His stepchildren have now filed a countersuit against Richard Young.

It's a cautionary tale, say those involved in the estate battle. Betty Young, who was in good health at the time of her death, had put only some of her wishes into writing. And she never attached some of that information to her will, so it was not valid in a court of law.
