Supreme Court Grants Chicago Handgun Ban Case

"In orders just released by the Supreme Court, the justices have granted review in 12 new cases for the fall term, including a major sequel to the D.C. v. Heller Second Amendment decision of 2008. At issue is whether the individual right to bear arms declared in Heller applies -- or is incorporated, to use the legal term -- against state, rather than just federal laws restricting that right. The case, which will likely be argued early next year, is McDonald v. Chicago, a challenge to Chicago's handgun ban."

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Answers Malpractice Allegations

"Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney and a former partner at the firm have responded to the malpractice suit filed by the name partners of Alcalde & Fay in July. The suit stems out of work done by former Buchanan partner Louis Diamond, who was hired by lobbyists Hector Alcalde and Kevin Fay to set up an employee stock ownership plan and advise on related investments designed to defer capital gains taxes."

Feinberg Questions Rescinding Pay

"Attorney Ken Feinberg, who was appointed by the Obama administration to determine the pay of top corporate executives at companies that received the most federal government aid, doesn't plan to 'claw back' compensation already paid to company officials except in "egregious" situations, he told a group of lawyers today."

Payroll Worker Accused of Stealing $1.2 Million from Firm

"Federal prosecutors say a former payroll worker stole $1.2 million dollars from the small Washington, D.C. law firm where she was employed. According to a criminal information entered Monday at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the suspect, Tamika Beasley, maintained payroll records at James E. Brown & Associates between 2002 and 2008."

Civil Rights Groups Seek International Help on Felony Voting

"The Sentencing Project and two national civil rights organizations have asked an international human rights body for a hearing on felony disenfranchisement laws in the United States and other countries."
