: Dispatches from the Culture WarsReview: Dinner at Eve
By Ed Brayton
So after the symposium last night I had dinner at Eve with my foodie pal Julie, my father, Dan Ray and Burt Humburg. Eve is owned by Eve Aranoff, who was one of the contestants on this season's Top Chef, being sent home after the second show. But those who know her and her cooking assured us that her restaurant is excellent and she's a very good chef, the format just didn't fit her skills.
The review: Mixed.
The appetizers were quite good. One of the interesting appetizers they serve is a plate of nachos made with fried wontons rather than tortilla chips. These were excellent. Very good flavor and the wontons were an interesting touch. I had Moroccan-spiced scallops. They were quite spicy, but with the creme fraiche they hit the perfect balance. And Julie had a chunky tomato soup that was nearly perfect.
