Immigrant holding center suit settled

By Richard Binder

ADVERTISEMENTS

Civil rights groups announced today that a lawsuit against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement over "barbaric" conditions at the basement holding center known as B-18 has been settled. The federal court agreement restricts detainees at the facility to 12 hours at a stretch except under unusual circumstances such as epidemics or natural disasters. It requires that they be provided with soap, access to attorneys and writing materials for those who need to prepare legal documents.
