: Legal Ethics ForumRisks for Young Lawyers In Cyberspace
Helpful for those of us who teach legal ethics (and for lawyers generally) is a front page NYT story today about the dangers of revealing confidential information in virtual reality, even if you think you're disguising the facts; or of making other statements that can get a lawyer in trouble.
The article is especially helpful for those of us more than a half generation older than our students and whose cautions about the dangers of virtual reality may sound like parental admonitions to look both ways when crossing the street. The examples in the article bring home the point.
And the dangers are greater: Statements on blogs and the like reach a wider audience than getting overheard on the bus and are there for eternity.
By the way, John Schwartz, the reporter, has done some fine page one stories about law and lawyers. He takes over the national law beat from Adam Liptak who moved to the Supreme Court. I've always believed (I'm partial, I know) that covering the law and lawyers on the national desk is the best beat in the world. So many characters! So many stories! So many important policy questions.
