Staffer at Wilson Sonsini charged with office supply scam

According to an indictment filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose, John Masakazu Tashiro, a purchasing specialist at the Palo Alto firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, helped a San Francisco office supplier defraud the company of some $1 million through fake purchases of index tab dividers.

Tashiro, Attorneys Printing Supply President Carlos Ivan Vargas Sr. and accounting manager Daniel Jose Dominguez are facing charges of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The indictment alleges the three conspired for four years to place dozens of purchase orders that were never filled, billing the law firm and sharing in the spoils.

"Spoils" may be overstating things, though, as the charges show Vargas and Dominguez cut Tashiro several checks for between $1,000 and $1,500.

They are scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in San Jose on Oct. 8.
