Breaking China News: People Getting Older

By Stan

ADVERTISEMENTS

No real news here, but I was amused by the following article, which had the breathless headline:

China’s Aged Population Growing At Fastest Rate in 60 Years

Here’s the ’scoop’:

China’s aged population is growing at its fastest rate since 1949, the China National Committee on Aging said Wednesday.

China’s aged population would increase by 8 million this year, up from a 3.11-million annual increase a decade ago which marked the beginning of an aging society, said Wu Yushao, deputy director of the office of the committee.

The aged population is expected to grow from 160 million in 2008 to 200 million by 2014, Wu said. (Xinhua)

I dont know about you, but that headline is telling me that all of a sudden, people are aging faster than usual. Captain Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew must have happened upon that region of space where cosmic rays interacted with their breakfast food in an unexpected manner, resulting in rapid aging. If Dr. McCoy can’t find a solution, they’ll all die within 48 hours!!!

Sorry, my geek is on high this morning.

Seriously, though, this should not have been written like a breaking news story.
