: Illinois Nursing Home Abuse BlogIllinois Legislature Seeks to Amend Nursing Home Care Act
By Levin & Perconti
Illinois House Bill 3445 will amend the Nursing Home Care Act and the state Mandates Act. It provides that no person may establish or operate a nursing home in Illinois unless and until he or she provides to the Department of Public Health proof of liability insurance coverage in an amount not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence. The Illinois nursing home legislation also requires the Illinois Department of Health to deny suspend, revoke or refuse to renew a license for failure to maintain liability insurance coverage. The revision will make it a Type ?A? violation if a home fails to maintain such insurance. Information concerning a facility?s liability insurance coverage will be subject to disclosure to the public. Currently the bill is in the Illinois House of Representatives. Please contact your state representative to encourage the passage of this bill. It will help decrease nursing home negligence. To read more about the nursing home legislation, please click the link.
