: Fight The HypoFootball Friday for 08/14/09
By Casebook Sherpa
This week, after watching a little of the dreadful Redskins performance last night, I’m reminded, for some reason, of the old saying: It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. Oh, wait, does that relate to a major football-related story from this week? Huh. I wonder which one.
Three football-related issues on my mind this week:
- Michael Vick signs with Eagles. Really? More importantly, what position do fantasy leagues list him at?
- Some college football players should be paid. Not all. But those whose images, jersey numbers, etc. are used to make the university more money should get a cut of that. Or perhaps a pool created to pay stipends to members of those teams that generate revenue for the university over and above ticket sales.
- The Redskins will never win if they keep failing to invest in their offensive line. I refuse to blame the team’s woes on Jason Campbell when he has no offensive line and very few downfield opportunities to make big plays (because they leave everyone in to block). Sadly, he’ll leave after this year and catch fire with a team who knows how to protect its quarterback with 5 or 6 linemen and an empty backfield.
Since this post was oh-so-popular last week, I’ll let you have it from there.
