Football Friday for 08/07/09

By Casebook Sherpa

ADVERTISEMENTS

Today is Football Friday here at The Hypo. We’ll do this each week as pretty much an open thread to talk all things football – college, NFL, fantasy. Just an outlet to escape from the law and career talk for a while.

I guess I can start with the NFL team I root for. I grew up an Eagles fan and continue to root for them because I know who they are – a pass-happy, athletic offense with an aggressive, fast defense for an organization that likes to develop talent. However, being a DC transplant and someone who likes rooting for hometown teams, I’ve really tried to like the Redskins. I really have. But they are so incredibly inept as an organization that I’ve yet to fully switch my allegiance. While that could change, the Redskins would have to seriously figure out what their identity is, how to draft and develop talent, avoid the temptation of spending $100 million on defensive linemen and find a way to stop being a thoroughly mediocre team that makes very few good, future-oriented decisions.

That said, my prediction for the Redskins this year is 6-10. They will struggle all year with the offensive line, stay too conservative on offense, and squander the effort of what will likely be a very good defense.
