: Whistleblower Law BlogWhistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2009 moves through Senate.
By Brian F. LaBovick
The Senate's progress and the bi-partisan efforts of Democrats and Republicans to strengthen the protections for whistleblowers should be applauded. Groups such as the Make It Safe Coalition, POGO, ACLU and many others complimented the efforts of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Special thanks should be made to Senators Daniel Akaka (D-HI), Susan Collins (R-ME), Joseph Lieberman (I-CT), George Voinovich (R-OH), and Claire McCaskill, and the Obama Administration.
The vote yesterday was unanimous to approve S. 372, The Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2009. This act now allows federal employees access to jury trials and offers protections to national security workers. This bill is a step in the right direction for encouraging and protecting federal employees that are whistleblowers.
Washington Post Writer, Joe Davidson, sums it up nicely with the title of his article 'Good News for Whistleblowers'.
