: Legal Pad | LAFormer California 'evangelist' found guilty on all counts
By Richard Binder
There has been some pretty lurid testimony delivered in the Tony Alamo case over the past couple of weeks.
Four "Jane Does" have come forward to testify to Alamo's penchant for young girls. One, now 17, said the evangelist married her at age 11 because she looked "very innocent to him." Another, who allegedly married Alamo at age 8, said he took explicit photos of her that he subsequently cut up in little pieces, a repeated habit inspired by his own paranoia.
Alamo's defense lawyer, Philip Kuhn, noted that no child pornography had been turned up during a raid on Alamo's property. But that didn't stop the jury from finding Alamo guilty on 10 federal counts of transporting minors across state lines for sex. The 74-year-old faces up to 175 years in jail.
A history of Alamo's humble beginnings, including the felony child abuse charges in California that led to his first arrest and case dismissal, can be found here.
