The size of death row, Baze & the continuing decline of the death row phenomnon

The Death Penalty Information Center remains the singularly best place to turn to for the statistical and historical resources on the death penalty. In this post DPIC looks at what appears to be a year to year drop in the total number of people under a death sentence and that despite the staying of all executions since the early fall. The Death Penalty Information Center has conducted a survey of death row populations as reported by the various state departments of correction in January/February 2008. From that survey, the current death row population across the country is 3,264. California continues to have the highest death row population with 669 inmates.
