The beast feeds upon itself:
Senator's actions cause conflict
'Trousergate' has some Kansas Democrats requesting Barone's removal as chairman
The Associated Press
Published Monday, February 18, 2008

A Democratic state senator with a history of butting heads with his party has run afoul of party leaders again, this time over what they said he did with sensitive polling data.

Several Democrats have accused Sen. Jim Barone, of Frontenac, [Kan.], of trying to leave a December party retreat with the data stuffed down the back of his pants. A fellow senator has proposed removing him as caucus chairman.

The whole thing lives here.
Sen. Barone admits that he stuffed the documents down his pants, in the manner of former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger. What he denies is that he was taking them out of the room at the time he was caught taking them out of the room. You might think that a guy who was first elected to the Kansas Senate in 1997 would have a better idea of how things work, but then again...
We hold no brief for the Democratic Party, but we can't help but feel a teensy bit uncomfortable that the party of Fred Phelps and Vern Miller finds itself reduced to swiping secret documents from each other, stuffing them down their pants and trying to sneak to the men's room.
By the way, what was in that polling data that made it so hush-hush?
Just askin', y'know?
