: Legal Pad | LACarona attorneys argue wiretapping violated "no contact" rule

Defense attorneys for former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona filed a brief on Friday to suppress the wiretapped conversations between Carona and former Assistant Sheriff Don Haidl.
The brief finds claims federal investigators violated a "no contact" rule with Carona by secretly wiretapping him when he was being represented by attorney H. Dean Stewart during the grand jury investigation, the Orange County Register reported.
A hearing on the motion to suppress will be heard on Feb. 29. hearing on the motion to suppress in his 10th floor courtroom in the Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse in Santa Ana.
Defense attorneys are also claiming prosecutors tainted the jury pool when they released partial transcripts of the secret conversations, the Los Angeles Times reports.
