The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law has compiled a comparative study of Judge Sotomayor?s opinions. After reviewing more than 1,000 rulings, the empirical study found Sotomayor to be ?squarely within the mainstream of the Second Circuit.?
The NYU study was limited to the Second Circuit and shows Judge Sotomayor voted with the majority in 98.2% of the constitutional cases in which she participated. Also, she agreed with Republican appointees to hold a challenged governmental action unconstitutional in nearly 90% of cases.
