By Robert Kraft
The Wall Street Journal reports, "The U.S. Chamber of Commerce said it will spend $100 million in an effort to stem the 'rapidly growing influence of government over private-sector activity,' in a major new move by the powerful business group to counter the Obama administration's regulatory agenda." This "drew a quick response from groups supportive of the Obama administration." The Service Employees International Union was "launched a campaign to counter the Chamber's effort, including an online ad that juxtaposes a businessman stuffing cash in his pocket with a child who has no health insurance."
BusinessWeek reported, "Anticipated tactics include coordinated grassroots lobbying by small businesses and trade associations, advertising and public education campaigns to underscore the importance of free enterprise, programs to enhance economic literacy of younger Americans, and political advocacy in the lead up to the mid-term elections at the end of next year."
The National Journal reported, "The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has apparently decided it has little to gain by engaging with congressional Democrats and the Obama Administration."
