By turquhart
Richard Alan White's Breaking Silence: The Case That Changed the Face of Human Rights tells the story of Joelito Filártiga, of his brutal torture and murder, and the demand for justice sought by his father. It documents the landmark legal decision in the field of international human rights. This decision is based on the Alien Tort Claims Act of 1789?an act that "grants jurisdiction to US Federal Courts over any civil action by an alien for a tort only, committed in violation of the law of nations or a treaty of the United States." The book reads like fiction.
It is available from Barnes & Noble and can be found in the Law Library.
