: Stephen's LighthouseCheeseburgers versus I Can Haz Cheezburger?
Interesting. Some Google engineers have figured out the Co2 emissions from Google searches and compared the to everyday things, like, um, newspapers. I guess they're feeling sensitive about their carbon footprint.
Google Is Greener Than Thou: One Newspaper Equals 850 Searches In CO2 Emissions
Cheeseburgers are worse than newspapers. One cheeseburger emits as much CO2 as 15,000 Google searches. Here are a few other comparisons:
Activity Google Searches
CO2 emissions of an average daily newspaper (100% recycled paper) = 850 Google searches
A glass of orange juice =1,050 Google searches
One load of dishes in an EnergyStar dishwasher = 5,100 Google searches
A five mile trip in the average U.S. automobile = 10,000 Google searches
A cheeseburger = 15,000 Google searches
Electricity consumed by the average U.S. household in one month = 3,100,000 Google searches
