: Legal Pad | LAW.R. Grace acquitted of asbestos charges

After a five-year court battle, a Montana federal jury on Friday acquitted W.R. Grace & Co. and three former executives of criminal violations of the Clean Air Act in connection with alleged asbestos exposure at its mine in the town of Libby.
Charges against two other former Grace executives were dropped at the request of prosecutors
In a conference call with reporters, Carolyn Kubota, a partner with the Los Angeles-based law firm O?Melveny and Myers LLP ? which represented Jack Wolter, a former Grace executive ? said the speed with which the jury returned its verdict showed the ?compelling evidence? of her client?s innocence.
