Over the past four decades, Paul Owen, the resident scenic designer at Actors Theatre of Louisville, has been asked to turn stages into vampire lairs, dead planets and the magical world of Macy's Santaland.

So, creatively speaking, the request that came from the Stites & Harbison law firm last spring seemed pretty mundane. In fact, the only research Owen had to do was to recall his stint on jury duty.
