FDA Warning on Hydroxycut

On May 1^st 2009, it was reported that the drug Hydroxycut has been linked to cause liver damage and other adverse effects. The drug, manufactured by Iovate Health Sciences Inc. of Oakville, Ontario, is used to increase the fat burning process helping with weight loss while increasing energy levels at the same time. It has been reported that there have been over 23 cases of people being negatively affected by the Drug with one death attributed to taking Hydroxycut. Also used as energy enhancers, Hydroxycut negatively affects the liver causing severe damage as well as jaundice, seizures and cardiovascular problems. The FDA has yet to identify exactly which ingredients or combinations of ingredients causes the adverse effects, yet they are working hard to figure it out as many other products on the market are very similar to Hydroxycut. This is just another example of a large pharmaceutical company taking advantage of their place in the industry. Pharmaceutical and large drug manufacturers do not require the need from the FDA for their product to be reviewed before going on the market, yet basic testing should be done to ensure that no mishaps like this one happen.
