Local Government Leadership

Local Government Leadership
Source: State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli

Noting recent stories concerning the shrinking pool of public sector leaders, State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said that more than 50 percent of all municipal managers are age 50 or older, and many will be eligible to retire within 5 years and counties, cities, towns, villages and school districts face a growing problem in recruiting and retaining leadership talent.

The Comptroller said that his Local Government Leadership Institute will offer help and bring together leaders from all levels of local government to increase dialogue and collaboration, raise awareness of common issues, and suggest practical ideas and advice.

This year, the Comptroller noted, the Institute?s theme is ?Beyond the Fiscal Crisis: How to Build Partnerships and Leverage Opportunities.? The first Institute seminars will be held on June 11 at Hofstra University and August 13-14 at Cornell University.

For additional information, visit the Institute?s website at:
