We hate to plaster other people's woes here, but once we've done it to one person we feel we must (in fairness) mete out equal treatment under the blog. Moreover, we try to find the teaching moment.
Here in Ohio, the Hamilton Municipal Court Clerk plead guilty to reckless operation of a motor vehicle. His arrest, as you might have guessed, was for a greater offense.
A Middletown Municipal Court judge sentenced him to pay $300 in court costs and attend an intervention program in lieu of a 30-day jail term.
The clerk is back on the job but faces further disciplinary sanctions as a court clerk. He did take a week off work (voluntarily, it seems) after the arrest.
How, you wonder, is this instructive? These things happen. Court employees are not immune. That said, it's helpful to know how various jurisdictions handle the situation.
See Court Clerk Pleads to Lesser Charge in OVI Case, Richard Wilson, Dayton Daily News (April 28, 2009).
