: BoardBuzz: NSBA's Daily WeblogMoose-related discipline (no laughing matter)
This one goes in the Friday files. You just can’t make this stuff up. The Seattle Times reports that eighth-graders at an Alaska school have been disciplined for moose harassment. (Yes, you read that right.)
A Phys. Ed. class encountered a moose on school grounds, and some students proceeded to taunt it. One source says that it was two eighth grade boys who threw rocks and poked sticks at a one year old bull moose. As the frightened moose tried to escaped his tormentors, he drove an antler nub into his head when he rammed a fence, staggered across the schoolyard, collapsed, and died.
By no means is BoardBuzz one to laugh at animal cruelty, but we just couldn’t pass up this bizarre story. Odds are pretty good that the majority of the remaining 49 states would never find themselves dealing with this situation.
