: Ross Ipsa LoquiturThanks Milwaukee Journal for the Twittering Mention
By Ross
I was pleasantly surprised this morning when a local colleague, Joe Skotarzak, President of River Run Computers, emailed and congratulated me for being on a list of the “20 most interesting Milwaukee Twitterers,” in a
n article by Kathy Flanigan, an online blogger for the venerable Milwaukee newspaper (who along with her colleague Stan Miller II (whose Dad was a legendary local jurist and tremendously nice guy) writes the best content our local paper has ever presented…and the only reason I read it at all).
But really…me? Milwaukee’s not a little town - we have about 1.5 million in the metro area - definitely bigger than most people are aware of (and SO different than the “Laverne & Shirley” and “beer and brats” image we have - did you know Milwaukee is the home of the 40+ year old Summerfest - the world’s largest music festival? Did you know the architecturati worldwide flock here to see the magnificent Santiago Calatrava-designed Milwaukee Art Museum? Milwaukee has actually become . . . dare I say it . . . kinda hip in the last few years, perhaps best evidenced by the fact that Chicagoans have been buying up loft space to hang out on weekends - seriously!)
Every time colleagues come to our city, they’re blown away: low expectations, big rewards.
Anyway, I thought it had to be a mistake . . . but no, it was true. Probably either a sad commentary on the state of Milwaukee Twittering if I made the list . . . or a positive comment about legal technology . I guess hometown recognition never hurts, right? (where the usual situation better fits the old adages that “You’re chopped liver in your own backyard” and “What’s the definition of an expert? Anyone from at least 500 miles away!”). Perhaps we are the ONLY 20 Twitterers in Milwaukee??
Guess this means that I’ll now need to spend even more time Twittering as opposed to actually experiencing “real life” (I will NOT, EVER say “tweeting” - it sounds too . . . dumb).
I’ve actually written a bit about my views of Twittering as a business tool here at Ross Ipsa Loquitur (just scroll down this page and look in the left column for the “Search” box, type in “twittter” and you’ll see my recent pieces about it - which do not necessarily indicate that I’m pro-Twittering for business purposes…or that it just hasn’t seemed obvious yet).
Again, I’m really surprised…!
