: Environmental Crimes BlogAtlantic States Sentencing Begins
By Walter James
The USDOJ issued a press release yesterday regarding the sentencing schedule in the Atlantic States case. On Monday, April 20, 2009, John Prisque, the former plant manager of the Atlantic States Cast Iron Pipe Co. at Phillipsburg (a division of McWane, Inc. of Alabama) was sentenced to seventy (70) months in prison. No fine was imposed. Prisque will surrender to the Bureau of Prisons at a later date. The USDOJ stated that the sentence was ?for his role in a conspiracy to commit flagrant abuses of environmental and worker safety laws at the plant.? There is a gag order in the case issued by District Judge Mary L. Cooper. The USDOJ also stated in its release that there will be no news release beyond the basic facts of the sentences imposed.
Prisque?s conviction as well as the convictions of his co-defendants and the company were the subject of a USDOJ April 26, 2006, press release.
Sentencing for the other convicted defendants will continue each day this week as follows:
Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 10:00 a.m.: Scott Faubert
Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 10:00 a.m.: Jeffrey Maury
Thursday, April 23, 2009, at 10:00 a.m.: Craig Davidson
