Staff Book Recommendations

ADVERTISEMENTS

Unshelved 8/13/08

Today the American Library Association (ALA) releases its list of the “Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2008.”  You can view this and other lists of banned and challenged books at the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom’s Banned Books web site.

Speaking of books, as you might imagine, our staff loves to read.  Below are a few of our favorite books and recent good reads.  (And, if you use the links below to purchase the recommended books, the Law School will receive a percentage of the sales!)

  Book recommendation list
  • My favorite book is Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.  A comedic spin on the birth of the Anti Christ, Good Omens features a demon who drives an original Rolls Royce and a rare book collecting angel who are quite thoroughly set on averting the apocalypse, because they rather like the world.  If you’re a fan of comedic fantasy/sci-fi, orangutan librarians and undead lawyers, you might also want to check out the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. (Mari Bigler)
  • The last really good one I read was Dewey, about a library cat. I think our library totally needs a cat. (Nicole Sandberg)
  • The Expected One & The Book of Love by Kathleen McGowan; thought-provoking fiction about the gospels Mary Magdalene & Jesus and descendents of their marriage. (Anon.)
