Happy Passover and Easter

By Andrea

ADVERTISEMENTS

I've been meaning to blog about this for a month, but Dan and I have gone to a Reform Jewish temple for Shabbat services a few times lately. After a lot of waffling about whether or not he wants to observe something, specifically Reform Judaism, he finally decided it wouldn't kill him to go to services and see if he felt at home. Being the liberal Christian that I am, there's nothing in Reform theology that I disagree with, and I enjoy the strong emphasis on social justice. I'd much rather go to a nice, inclusive spiritual service with him than nothing at all.

So we found a small, friendly temple nearby and have enjoyed it quite a bit, even taking Becca to "Tot Shabbat" twice for songs and stories. We'll see how things develop. But since this week is Passover, and we didn't have a big dinner to go to (and didn't feel ready to go to one of the temple's big home dinners with strangers), we had our own mini-Seder at home. I rounded up the basics at the supermarket, Dan printed out an English-heavy and liberal Haggadah, and it was actually completely great.

Seder plate
There's our little makeshift Seder plate, complete with beets instead of a lamb bone (acceptable vegetarian substitution!) and an orange, because we are inclusive like that.

And we didn't forget Easter, either. Remember this bunny?
