By Wayne Parsons

ADVERTISEMENTS

Kaimakani Street was partially closed on Thursday at about 2:30 in the afternoon after a car driven by an older man struck a woman in a crosswalk. The injured woman was taken to Queens Medical Center in critical condition after being treated at the scene by paramedics.

I have written before on the epidemic of crosswalk pedestrian injuries.

Honolulu Alert: Another Pedestrian Struck Down In A Crosswalk;

Another Pedestrian Death In Beretania Street Crosswalk

I continue to be surprised by these incidents. Why do we have so many?

The man was driving a 2001 gold Chevy Malibu sedan and was turning left from Moanalua Road onto Kaimakani Street. The Malibu crashed into the woman according to police.The elderly man driving the vehical that struck the pedestrian was not injured. According to a report in the Honolulu Star Bulletin:

The accident occurred at 2:09 p.m. at the intersection of Kaimakani and Moanalua Road. Police shut down Moanalua Road fronting St. Elizabeth School between Aiea Access Road and Kaimakani Street for 3 1/2 hours while police investigated the scene.

According to reports both the woman and the man were Aiea residents and both were 69 years old.
