Another Reason Not To Watch China TV

Sky Canaves at the WSJ blog describes the coming of the apocalypse:

The NBA and Chinese brewing giant Tsingtao will launch a cheerleading-themed reality show on China Central Television?s sports channel next month, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Participants on the show will compete for a chance to join a team that will travel to the U.S. to train with a professional NBA cheerleading squad. The nine-episode series will be filmed in 9 cities across China and is slated to debut on CCTV-5 May 9.

In addition to showcasing the pom pom- and booty-shaking skills of its contestants, the show will also highlight aspects of NBA culture, such as ?Michael Jordan, the Lakers and basketball history,? producer Su Ling told the Hollywood Reporter.

Let’s see, young Chinese girls with short skirts and bare tummies jumping up and down, with a little bit of sports on the side. Hmmm.

If anyone wants to pool some capital to purchase the offshore distribution rights, count me in. With a concept like that, it’s a sure thing. Even better, no matter what country you showed it in, you wouldn’t have to translate it from the original Chinese — no one would be listening to the dialogue anyway.
