Most Americans Support EFCA

ADVERTISEMENTS

With the battle heating up over the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), polling has emerged showing majority support for the labor-backed legislation introduced in Congress last week.

In a piece on the public relations contest being waged between unions and big business, Politico describes EFCA as 'designed to limit management's ability to harass employees who want to form a union, [which] is now better known as ‘card check' and has been branded a nefarious plot to rob workers of their right to cast secret ballots on whether to unionize.'

'There are two ways to interpret these results [of the recent poll]. One … is that those paying attention learn more about the critiques of the legislation and buy into them. But … it's more likely that the people who are paying attention are those who have the most at stake in the debate, labor and business interests, and business interests are larger and also have a larger microphone,' reports TAPPED. 'Ultimately, though, the results suggest that the debate is far from over.'

ACS hosted labor law experts at the National Press Club last week to hear both sides of the debate. Video of the ACS panel 'The Employee Free Choice Act & the American Workforce' is available here.
