: Religion ClauseObama Connects With 5 Pastors For Prayer and Discussion
By Howard M. Friedman
ADVERTISEMENTS
While the Obama family has not yet joined a church in Washington, D.C., today's New York Times reports that President Barack Obama has created connections with five pastors who he telephones for private prayer sessions and with whom he discusses the role of religion in politics. The pastors, who are centrists theologically, generally share Obama's belief in religion as a force for social justice. The five are Bishop T.D. Jakes, Rev. Jim Wallis, Rev. Kirbyjon H. Caldwell, Rev. Joel C. Hunter and Rev. Otis Moss Jr. Jakes and Caldwell also sometimes served as spiritual advisers to President George W. Bush.Full post as published by Religion Clause on March 15, 2009 (boomark / email).
