The voters have spoken, the bastards!

ADVERTISEMENTS

In this semester's law of lawyering class at UC-Berkeley, I initially banned teh internets (it's a series of tubes invented by a Nobel laureate who briefly attended law school).

But I promised the students that they could vote on internet access half-way through the semester.  I let the students run the survey and report the results, using Survey Monkey.  I trusted their intelligence, their intellectual curiosity, and their good judgment.  I screwed up.

The results:

Should internet usage be allowed in the classroom for the rest of the semester?

Yes - 34

No - 18

Have you paid more attention in this class than in others where internet is not overtly banned?

Yes, I've paid more attention. - 24

No, I've paid the same amount of attention. - 26

I don't use internet in any of my classes. - 3

In what way is classroom internet usage distracting for you?

I'm distracted by my own usage -  40

I'm distracted by others usage -  9

My attention never waivers - 11
