The Texas Legislature is nearing the middle of its 140 biennial session, but New Mexico lawmakers are in the final days of their 60 day session. KRQE-TV has, "Ethics vs. death penalty at Capitol."A Republican senator pressing ethics reform wonders why his bill is stuck in a House committee whose Democratic chair managed to get her death-penalty reform out and over to the Senate. Sen. Bill Payne, R-Albuquerque, was to allow judges to fine public officials the amount of their salaries and pensions if they are convicted of corruption in office. That bill currently is stalled in the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee chaired by Rep. Gail Chasey, D-Albuquerque.
