Jury Awards Damages in Oral Surgery Death

A New Jersey jury has ordered an oral surgeon to pay $11 million to the family of man who suffocated following surgery to remove his wisdom teeth. In the lawsuit, the family claimed that surgeon George Flugrad and dentist John Madaris were negligent in the 2005 death of 21-year-old Francis Keller. However, jurors found that Madaris was not negligent in the incident. The award is believed to be the largest in state history involving dental malpractice.
