Twelfth Annual Law, Culture, and Humanities Conference, April 3-4 At Suffolk Law

By Kevin Maillard

ADVERTISEMENTS

Suffolk April 3rd-4th, 2009
The Twelfth Annual Conference for the
Association of the Study of Law, Culture and the Humanities will be hosted by
Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts

Conference webpage here.

Our keynote speaker for the meeting in April will be James Carroll. Here is the precis for his talk:
"In primitive societies the solution to the problem of violence was - violence. The sublimations of religious sacrifice - violence enacted for and sanctioned by the divine - served as a check on cycles of rivalry and revenge, but the great break-through came with law, a mode of resolving conflict non-violently. What occurred within societies must now take place between them. Structures of international law are the only alternative to the world-ending violence of new weapons. Can violence any longer be seen as the solution to violence?"

The registration site for the 2009 ASLCH meeting is now online. To register for the conference and pay registration fees click here.
