: Legal Pad | LAMillions at stake in Kaiser/Downey suit
By Richard Binder
A judge's ruling today may result in the
Kaiser healthcare system paying out millions of dollars to about 2,000
of its employees who allege they were victims of wage and rest period
violations, an attorney for some of the workers said today. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge John P. Shook granted a
motion by Charles T. Mathews, an attorney for the plaintiffs, to find
three Kaiser entities in default. The plaintiffs -- Lynda Ramsey, Howard Riggs, Lorraine
Guevara and Juliana Alpuerto -- sued Kaiser Foundation Health Plan
Inc., Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Southern California Permanente
Medical Group in March 2007. All worked at the Kaiser Permanente
facility in Downey. A hearing on what
damages should be awarded has been set for June 3.
