By David Badertscher, PLL
Source: Crime and Justice News, February 26, 2009.
"President Obama's first federal budget seeks to increase the Justice Department's appropriation to $26.5 billion for the year starting Oct. 1, up from 25.5 billion last year. Among items cited in the budget summary: funding to begin hiring 50,000 additional local police officers, more money for the FBI to investigate financial fraud, and more for immigration enforcement and border security."
"The Obama budget also would provide $109 million for prisoner re-entry programs, including $75 million for grant programs under the Second Chance Act that would help provide counseling, job training, drug treatment, and other aid to ex-prisoners."
