: Dispatches from the Culture WarsPress Censorship at the Michigan Republican Convention
By Ed Brayton
On Friday night, I went with my colleague from the Michigan Messenger, Todd Heywood, to cover the Michigan Republican state convention in Lansing. We got to the convention center and stood in line at the registration desk to find out where we got our press credentials. A lady there then told us to go over to the hotel, right next door, and to a particular room.
So we go to the hotel, go to that room, and talk to the person we were told to talk to. He tells us that we don't need any special credentials at all, we just had to sign in - so we did. Then we started walking around to find people to interview and a place where we could use as a base to work on our laptops, etc. I got a quick interview with Michelle McManus, who is running for Secretary of State and got some very interesting comments (that will be on the Messenger on Monday or Tuesday).
