PROPOSED: Senate Bill 112 (Prohibit public agencies from providing health benefits to non-family members of employees)

By Michael Stevens

ADVERTISEMENTS

introduced by Sen. Vernie McGaha on January 28, 2008, to limit state agency and institution employee health insurance coverage to employees and their family members. The bill defines "family member" as spouse (according to Kentucky law), qualifying children claimed as dependents on the employee's federal tax return or for whom the employee or employee's spouse has a court ordered obligation to provide health insurance, and family members of the employee or the employee's spouse who are claimed as dependents on the employee's federal tax return as qualifying relatives.
