: SoapBox Law?Let Me Hear It From All You Estrogen Based Life Forms!? A Conservative at a Hillary Clinton Rally in San Jose
I?m not a Hillary hater per se but, as a conservative, I certainly don?t line up with her on most things. However, the 2008 presidential election is the most important and historic election of my lifetime for a number of reasons (no incumbent or vice-president for first time in 50 years, first legit woman, first legit black guy, first legit Mormon, no clear cut favorite emerging, etc.), So with one of the remaining front runners holding a rally within a couple of miles of my home, I had to make an appearance. What can I say, I?m a political junkie. (The pic is a glowing mobile sign outside of the convention center). Anyway, it was kind of depressing and offensive. It was depressing because there was a lot of people there. I?m talking thousands (head count at about 4000 apparently). And they all had their Hillary signs and stickers and actually seemed excited to vote for her. I felt like I was in an insane asylum.
It was offensive in the way they pumped up the crowd. There were about 8 warm up acts who spoke. They were all women (which is fine in and of itself), but they were so clearly pandering to women that I couldn?t understand why anyone could possibly be for that. For example, one of the women on the stage said ?Let me hear it from all you estrogen based life forms!? Since 70% of the crowd was women, there was a loud cheer. After a few minutes, the mc remembered that there were some men in the crowd, so she yelled ?Let me hear it from all of those who are firmly in touch with their feminine side!? Manly men like me were instantly disenfranchised. But seriously, I tried to imagine other candidates pandering to another group in the same way. Can you imagine Barrack Obama saying ?Where my black people at!?? or Mitt Romney getting on the stage and saying ?When I say ?Church of Jesus Christ of?, you say ?Latter-Day Saints!?? Granted, this wasn?t Hillary saying this, but when 8 of her subordinates do it in a row, you got to attribute some of that offensive pandering to the candidate herself.
When Hillary herself finally made it on stage (she was a half hour late), I obviously found her less than inspiring. Though I?m biased, I felt that the crowd was more pumped waiting for her. When she finally got on stage and started into her talking points, it seemed that the crowd lost a lot of steam. I couldn?t stay for the whole thing (I had to go meet my wife for dinner) but I would have left anyway because her voice is so grating. This is not a sexist comment because Diane Feinstein introduced her and I find Feinstein inspiring. In fact, I voted for Feinstein last election because although she?s wrong on many things, she?s thoughtful and sincere, which is enough for me to pull the lever for a Dem when the Republican has no chance.
Despite the rally being depressing and offensive, it was kind of cool to be a part of the presidential election in a small way. Granted I?ve already met my man Mitt, but it was a much smaller, more intimate crowd. This was a classic political rally and it was certainly worth going. Here?s some pics and vids:
Lyndon LaRouche finally makes an appearance! These guys were always on the UCLA campus in 2004, handing out flyers, holding up offensive signs and yelling at people with a crazy religious like zealotry. However, I have not seen nor even heard from this political cult all political season and I have to say, I've almost missed them. They were kind of like the Ron Paul supporters before Ron Paul. In fact, if I had to guess, I would wager that many of the followers of the 85 year old LaRouche jumped ship for Ron Paul.
For some reason I'm having trouble posting the vids, so here is a quick summary of one of the vids I was going to post:
- Video of some MC stating that Hillary loves the enviornment because why? Because RFK Jr. supports her! By the way, Jr. is an Air America host who called those who don't believe in man made global warming that will lead to catastrophe are traitors and should be shot. Great.

Republican Update:
The latest Rasumussen Poll has Romney and McCain tied nationally! Perhaps the cheer I heard yesterday at the Hillary rally holds true for Romney: Si Se Puede!
