Family Dealt Another Blow in Blackwater Case

A federal administrative law judge has ruled that the children of a Blackwater Worldwide contractor killed during a surprise assault in Iraq are entitled to government insurance payments that prohibit them from seeking damages against the company. An attorney for the children?s mother had argued that the Defense Base Act should not apply to Blackwater because of its status as a subcontractor and that the family should be able to pursue a wrongful death claim. The family is expected to appeal the ruling.
