12 of 14 . . . No, it?s Not a New Star Trek Character

ADVERTISEMENTS

No, it’s not a new Star Trek character. It’s my on the road v. at home ratio for the last two weeks. So sorry for the two week hiatus - I’ve been on the road literally 12 of the last 14 days. First a client implementation of a new Paper LESS Office network system for the wonderful estate planning and business law team of Craig and Maudie Boyd in Tyler, Texas at the beginning of last week (two great meals in Tyler if you find yourself in America’s Rose Capitol: The Jalapeno Tree for spectacularly good Tex-Mex and Rudy’s Barbecue where the floors are bare concrete and look they they’re regularly hosed down but that 1/2 pound of ”lean” (beef) was otherworldly).

Then on to Warren, New Jersey to work with client Steve Krause, a busy subro lawyer and fellow Solosezzer. Then after two days home, off to LegalTech NY, where I had the great pleasure of presenting with one of my very favorite people on the planet, Donna Payne of Payne Consulting and Metadata Assistant fame. Along with fascinating and genuinely nice guy, Eugene Stein, former CIO of White & Case, we talked about the national and global issues related to data disclosure, privacy and metadata - a fun, rollicking hour terrorizing our audience with metadata horror stories. While NYC was literally a 22 hour trip - in and out - I did manage to make my regular pilgrimmage to Carnegie Deli for a Woody Allen (1/2 corned beef, 1/2 pastrami, 100% deligasm).

Then on to Houston to present at the 2nd Annual Texas Bar’s Law Practice Management and Technology Conference. Always love presenting and visiting with my Texas techno.pals - Mark Greenwald (who could well be comedian Richard Lewis’s evil twin and who should be doing stand-up), Mark Unger, Dave Ferrell, Al Harrison, Craig Ball, Rick Forlano, Phil Mack and a wonderful surprise, Gisela Bradley, formerly the Texas Bar’s PMA and now consulting as part of her “retirement.” A great, fun, lively audience and terrific Texas Bar CLE staff in Shawna Gunkel and Ann Kloeckner who made me feel very well taken care of. Several interesting observations include: seeing my first Thinkpad W700 wide-body 17″ machine in the wild - an attendee’s machine - lighter than I expected. And also another user, like me, who had only a netbook - in this case an attendee with an Asus 1000H. Several Macs in use too and more laptops being used by attendees at any conference I’ve ever been too (facilitated by the simple but brilliant move of the Texas Bar folks of arranging to have a power strip at EVERY table - how smart is that? Why don’t ALL conferences do it?)

But read the next blog post for the most interesting part of the past two weeks for me.
